Improve your skin IQ
Probiotics are known to help aid in a healthy gut but did you know that if eaten or applied topically daily, will help reduce sun damage, acne and even eczema. Probiotics reduce inflammation, bacterial growth, and strengthens skins defenses against eczema. Just take 100 mg a day to begin experiencing an improved complexion. I like to get my daily probiotics from Kefir found in the dairy aisle. Kefir is a drinkable organic yogurt. Excellent added to a morning smoothie or you can drink it alone. I prefer Raspberry flavor.
Hello Red Wine! We know it is rich in antioxidants but did you know it also has resveratrol, a buffer to ethanol found in hard liquor, beer and wine. A study at Stanford Medical School found Ethanol, a high sugar and starch combo, contributes greatly to skin cancer. Consuming 7 or more drinks a week of liquor, beer and white wine can greatly increase your chances of skin cancer. My personal favorites on a budget are Trader Joe’s Organic Wines for under $10 bucks! Cheers!
Red Heads, such as Ed Sheeran, has an exceedingly high risk for melanoma. Researchers at Harvard Medical claim a gene called MC1R is found in about 2% of redheads, not found in blonde or brown hair. This marker is linked to an accelerated tumor growth factor. SPF is strongly advised for everyone but is critical in redheads. I love Daily Protect SPF by Image Skincare.
What’s up with SPF 50? In a recent study at the Queensland University of Technology in Australia, SPF 30 + was found to not only protect against sunburn but also provides 100% protection against all 3 types of skin cancer: Basal Cell, Squamous Cell, and Melanoma. SPF also protects the gene p53, the skin healing gene. When skin experiences sunburning too many times it stops healing, which can further contribute to skin cancer formation. I see a lot of clients who did not practice SPF protection for most of there life. It wasn’t talked about then like it is today. SPF 30 feels light and natural on the skin, which is excellent for a daily hydrator with regular sun exposure. SPF 15 is readily available in most makeups today and is ok for daily wear with periodic sun exposure.
What does “prevention,” mean to you? One cancer leads to another. Your at about a 15 to 26 percent increase of obtaining melanoma if you have had Basal Cell or Squamous Cell. Melanoma survivors have a 28 percent greater risk for obtaining other cancers including breast and Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Sun Damage Folklore! We all believe a majority of our sun damage was created as young children but a study conducted by the FDA proves otherwise. About 50 percent of your UV exposure occurs after the age of 40. That means all you summer bunnies, yes you know who you are, still have time to reverse the damage and begin protecting yourself.
IF CANCER ISN’T ENOUGH REASON TO WEAR SUNSCREEN then just remember that wrinkles, deep set ugly witch wrinkles are created from sun damage too. : ) not to mention dark brown discolorations!
