My weekend at The International Esthetics, Cosmetics, Spa Conference.
This was my very first Trade Show and it was HUGE! Greatly exceeded my expectations. Upon arrival you have two separate entrances at the North and South. I followed the crowd through the North entrance. As you walk in for the first time it can be a bit overwhelming. Felt very lost, a lot like finding your way through the Phoenix AZ airport. First things first, I found a representative to ask for directions to my class. Clearly he would have no idea where it was out of about an estimated 100 classes available. Kindly he referred me to the self-help stand with the daily class schedule and map. On my way to the stand I passed many characters one of whom dressed in drag, super Fabulous! As I began searching for my class I must have walked in a circle three times. My Burberry heels took a brutal beating. My calves were on fire at the end of the day. I was walking like I was in stilts. Day two was a lot easier on my feet because I knew exactly where I was going and the flow of the building. Next year should be a piece of cake.
The exhibit halls are crammed pack full of vendors, over 300 in total. My absolute favorite vendor was the ADAKO Massage Chair Distributor! Wow that chair saved my life. It actually stretches your limbs while therapeutically massaging in a very comfortable all leather chair. This was the Rolls Royce of Massage Chairs. I must have spent 20 minutes in my chair chatting with the two women next to me also melting into their message chairs. If we were neighbors we would buy one and use it like a timeshare, I called the first week of the month.
The first day I attended Two Eminence Organic Master Classes. I did receive a certification for each class and a Eucalyptus Facial Cleanser. I would highly recommend these classes if you use the product line or have an interest in Organic skin care. The President Boldijarre is Hilarious in his approach to education. His props include a rubber chicken, ginormous beach balls, confetti, candy tossing, fun music and of course his stand up comedy act. Hilarious pens are thrown about like confetti, my favorite was from a sexual dysfunction clinic. Sort of raunchy humor but who doesn’t enjoy that. Deff recommend attending at least one of his classes, it is unlike anything else. Hungarian message technique was my main area of interest. I did recieving a 10 minute demo on the technique. In my opinion it goes beyond the normal facial massage to include face, shoulders, arms, vigorous forehead/scalp, low back to neck and the sides of you torso. I felt like a rag doll to be honest because the movements were pretty fast. If you attend this class pay close attention to the facial massage and the drainage technique. The face can be lifted to appear 10 years younger. The staff was kind enough to allow filming of the demo.
The second day at the event I decided I would go big and purchased registration for Two CIDESCO Master classes. Normally I would not pay such an exorbant cost to attend a certification training but this is after all the world-wide recognized masters of Esthiology educators. A CIDESCO diploma is the equivalent to earning a Masters in Esthiology.
The morning class consisted of Chemical Peel education. The instructor Elaine Sterling was wonderful. Topics include skin, extrinsic/intrinsic factors, signs of aging, chemical peels, Fitzpatrick scale, glacau index, consent forms, contraindications, pledge forms, types of peels, classification, enzymes, AHA/BHA acids, TCA, superficial peels, medium peels, deep peels, oxygen treatment, sensation, expectations, awareness, post care, preparation, daily care… and the list goes on and does include a demo. The staff was kind enough to allow filming of the demo.
The afternoon class was led by Lydia Sarfati, Chairman of CIDESCO, and recognized by Vogue Magazine as being the best Esthetician in the USA. Topics covered include genetics, internal and external factors, DNA, UV damage, wrinkles, Melanogenisis, medical trends including micro needling-FDA concerns, Peels, Retinoids Seaweed, Sea Science, Amino Acids, Peptides, vitamins, skin brightening, skin firming, ingredients, vitamins, oils, extracts, antioxidants, exfoliants, facial message, galvanic, nutrition… the list goes on, is very comprehensive. A demo is included using galvanic and traditional seaweed derived masque. Well worth the cost. The staff was kind enough to allow filming of the demo.
One tip I have is to voice record the entire class for later review. I always find this helpful in order to listen and really absorb the information in your own time.
The food court was surprisingly pretty good. I had the Signature Angus Burger meal.
I do recommend bringing a sweater regardless of the intense heat outside, they set the AC to Antarctica. Rent a vehicle or have a town car company ready to go because the taxi service was a nightmare. Granted the EDC was in town which added about 140,000 extra people in town.
All in all this is a must if you are serious about your career and want to earn some excellent certifications.
Remember you are the creator of your destiny and of achieving your goals. Never let anyone hinder your ability to climb that mountain. Do what feels best for you and never give up. Not everyone will understand you but stay true to what you need, who you are and practice self-love daily.
